Philips UV Lamps

The Philips UV lamps range offers the very latest cutting edge technology in UV lighting. As the world’s largest lamp manufacturer, their product catalogue is comprehensive and one which is constantly being developed and improved upon.

Germicidal ultraviolet lamps are used for air purification, water disinfection and surface sterilisation. They are a known disinfectant for air, surfaces, objects and water that can help mitigate the risk of acquiring an infection. They have been used for disinfection purposes for over 40 years, during which Philips have led the way as leading UV lamp manufacturers.

How do Philips UV Lamps Work?

UV-C radiation is germicidal, which means it deactivates the DNA of bacteria, viruses and other pathogens, destroying their ability to multiply. More specifically, uv lamps cause damage to the nucleic acid of microorganisms by forming covalent bonds between certain adjacent bases in the DNA. When these bonds form, the organism is incapable of reproducing – In fact when the organism does try to replicate, it dies.

Philips UV Lamps FAQs

What Are Philips UV Lamps Used for?

Philips UV lamps are used for disinfectant purposes. They sterilise surfaces, air, objects and water, reducing the risks of bacteria growth and making them ideal for medical environments. Philips UV lamps, or germicidal lamps, are also commonly used in water filtration systems, inactivating bacteria, viruses and spores that grow in these habitats.

New experiments have shown that Philips UV lamps are also successful in killing Covid-19, proving their use in hospitals, homes and office spaces.

How Long Do Philips UV Lamps Last?

Philips UV lamps are known to last up to 9000 hours before they need replacing. This ranges between 6 and 12 months, depending on how often you use these lamps and the average lifespan quoted by the manufacturer. Many UV systems are now designed with a controller, indicating when you should replace a UV lamp.

Philips is a high-quality brand that produces durable and reliable UV lamps, meaning the products manufactured by Philips are likely to last longer. However, it’s still important to replace your UV lamps after the recommended timeframe, as they will become less effective.

What Types of Philips UV Lamps Are There?

We offer an array of Philips UV lamps in the ELC Online shop, from water disinfection to air purification for both commercial and residential customers. These lamps are all designed for sterilisation, killing bacteria, viruses and other microorganisms that cause harm.

You can browse our Phillips UV lamps range today to find out more, or get in touch with ELC Lamps if you have any queries.

Are Philips UV Lamps Safe to Use?

Yes. Philips UV lamps are completely safe to use, assuming they are handled and installed correctly. Some lamps require PPE (personal protective equipment) during installation and we recommend avoiding direct eye contact with a UV light source. Follow all safety instructions when using the Philips UV lamp to minimise and eradicate the risk of injury.

If you have additional safety questions regarding the UV lamps provided by ELC Lamps Online, don’t hesitate to contact us.

How Do You Clean a Philips UV Lamp?

Philips UV lamps themselves should not be cleaned, instead, you should replace them every 6 to 12 months depending on use. If your UV lamp is fitted with a quartz sleeve, you should try and clean these sleeves every 6 to 12 months depending on water quality in your area. You can read more about how to clean a UV quartz sleeve here.

What our customers have to say…

“Ordered a UV lamp at 3.45 pm it arrived in Aberdeenshire next morning. The cost of the item was a fraction of what was on offer elsewhere. A technical query was answered by phone in a friendly and efficient manner.

I will most certainly be using this company again and would recommend it to anyone else.”
