UV-C Lamp Ballasts

UV-C lamps require a ballast (or Choke) to provide the necessary starting voltage across the lamps’ filaments to provide the correct running current and voltage.

The Evolution of UV-C Lamp Ballasts

UV ballast technology has greatly improved in the last few years. Historically ballasts were made with copper coils and steel cores. They also required a switch starter to enable the lamp to strike.

Magnetic ballasts are quite inefficient and heavy. They also can generate Electromagnetic Frequencies that can interfere with electronic equipment. Magnetic ballasts are therefore being phased out and replaced by Electronic High Frequency alternatives.

Electronic UV Ballasts

Electronic ballasts are a newer technology, these use electronic circuitry to regulate the current through the lamp. This means the ballasts can be customised to create the optimum running conditions for different types of lamps. Electronic ballasts run cooler than magnetic ballasts and are therefore more efficient to operate.

We offer electronic ballasts for most types of Ultraviolet lamps. Our range of UV-C lamp ballasts for germicidal UV lamps provide a low-maintenance, advanced and energy-efficient solution for germicidal ultraviolet lighting applications, including water, air and surface disinfection.
